An innocent dolphin was killed on an Argentinian beach this past week. The dolphin’s cause of death: selfies. The baby dolphin was seen near the shore, and dragged out onto the beach before being passed around a crowd for selfies. The dolphin was a Franciscan dolphin, a species considered vulnerable by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. While selfies with a unique setting are becoming a new favorite pastime, using a baby dolphin as a photo-op is far from cool. Some believe that the dolphin was already dead before the beach-goers took pictures with it. However, regardless of whether or not the dolphin was dead, the act of taking selfies with it is still disturbing. If the dolphin was not dead before dragged out of it’s home, it would have died of dehydration; a torturous death for a sea animal. People should have more respect for wildlife, dead or alive.
