Fire rained down from the sky and the ash suffocated the city, some people ran for their lives attempting to the dodge the falling rubble from the buildings overhead. Other citizens cowered in groups as the ash surrounded them. From fifty miles away the blast of Mount Vesuvius could be seen one August morning in 79 A.D. This was the scene that would have played out in the eyes of any witness that had been alive in Pompeii and the surrounding towns around the volcano. nearly 1500 years later excavations uncovered the remains of nearly two thousand citizens who lost their lives. Recent advances in technology have made it possible to take CT scans of the casts made previously. These advances will now let scientists be able to determine more about these people. Such as their diets, health at the time of death, and have a better picture of what these people look like. Helping better understand these people will help preserve their memory
