Twelve months of Winter
Pluto was once thought to be a meaningless piece of rock floating on the outskirts of the solar system. But, recent photos show that Pluto now is basically made up of frozen water. The base layer is made up of solid ice, which is like bedrock on earth. To show the amount of frozen water on the planet, NASA stitched together two infrared images of the planet. Using the Ralph/Linear E talon Spectral Array (LEISA) instrument the pictures were able to eliminate the possibility of ice signatures created by other elements such as methane and nitrogen. The planet has towering ice mountains and potential cryovolcanoes which means ice volcanoes. This new map shows more water ice over the surface of the planet. Frozen water is a big deal on a planet it is one of the key elements for a habitable planet. Pluto seems to amaze scientists with its Wicker 2 massive amounts of frozen methane, nitrogen, and carbon monoxide, but don’t forget about the water ice. It is mostly found beneath those three layers. It makes up the what would be the bedrock for Earth. I think this is an important discovery for NASA because of the natural gases and water ice on the planet. It could almost be used as a place to basically collect those natural gases and the water from ice. Eventually I think that we will have to leave this planet because we are running out of natural resources so fast. The resources on Earth are only to sustain with a population of about 2 billion people. Right now the Earth is at 7 billion and still growing which means that the Earth is still growing at a rapid rate, and those resources are fading away.
